12:49 PM Manny: this is good

12:57 PM me: that is really really smart and good
1:00 PM Manny: it certainly doesnt just say, the New York Times is good and holy and bloggers wear pajamas and work in the basement
that's a start over 99 percent of everything written on the subject
I think that people do that because they secretly hope to get a job at the Times
1:01 PM thus, all stories on new media must include the phrase ``The Times, of course, is indispensable...'' blah blah

1:08 PM me: Better than that, there are a couple of really good points here: 1) the collection and disaggregation of existing news, like say what PJ reports in afghanistan or even what's in the times, is a really important job and somebody's got to do it; 2) the newspapers stupid rules about how to do things are hampering their success; 3) although I don't think he actually says this, some has to watch the watchmen and that is an important job

1:14 PM me: I especially like this quote from Greenwald. I think we've talked about it before: "The steadfast, ongoing refusal of our leading media institutions to refer to what the Bush administration did as "torture"—even in the face of more than 100 detainee deaths; the use of that term by a leading Bush official to describe what was done at Guantánamo; and the fact that media outlets frequently use the word "torture" to describe the exact same methods when used by other countries—reveals much about how the modern journalist thinks.
For the press, Greenwald added, 'there are two sides and only two sides to every 'debate'—the Beltway Democratic establishment and the Beltway Republican establishment.'"
For the press, Greenwald added, 'there are two sides and only two sides to every 'debate'—the Beltway Democratic establishment and the Beltway Republican establishment.'"
that pretty much sums it up
1:15 PM Manny: idiots in a sack
1:16 PM me: Nibbles is way smarter than them
26 minutes |
1:42 PM Manny: the first internet comment after every David Broder, Dowd or Cokie Roberts column ought to read "Nice work Nibbles!"
3:33 PM me: i wholeheartedly agree
54 minutes |
4:27 PM Manny: that kind of over-rates cokie and david broder though
Say what you will about Nibbles, he got the job done
and he did not chew through skinner's ball sack
me: nibbles was a true American hero
he fought for the little guy
